Your Course Project In a well organized and well written (at least) ten page pap
Your Course Project In a well organized and well written (at least) ten page paper (OVER 2500 words), with APA citations, you will show research and make an argument and PUT FORTH a SOLUTION – even a very small one to one of the issues below You get your choice of TWO broad areas… Something real, specific and exact that some specific, real and exact level of government can do (change in the current policy) to improve the dismantling of institutional racism. OR Something real, specific and exact that some specific, real and exact level of government can do (change in the current policy) to prepare for the NEXT pandemic (not what we did wrong but what we must do NOW). For BOTH questions focus on local government or the state government of California. We all understand the concept of “institutional racism.” It is not difficult to “rap your head around” but it is difficult to identify EXACTLY what needs to be done to make a change – even a minor one – in some specific level of government – in the area of institutional racism in America. For Your Course Project, you don’t need to argue it exists – you need to clearly identify the level of government involved and state exactly what that level of government can do to make an improvement (change of policy – problem/solution). Look at the details of ANY government policy (political issue) involving institutional racism and see what can be done to improve the situation (even in a minor way). There are thousands of governmental policies that need to be change – That’s why we do research. You can’t solve (and are NOT asked to solve) institutional racism with a ten page paper, but you can point out ONE thing that can be done to make it better. THINK about the details and HOW things can be improved through CONCRETE action. I challenge you to pick The California State Government Level – or local LA governments (LAUSD, city, county, police, Fire, DWP, public health, etc…) Using similar parameters as above, you can look at a specific policy that could have been done better during the Covid19 problem. Essentially you need to say what should be done BEFORE the next one hits (not just report what went wrong this time)… But like the above, look at some small, real aspect of how the government and society responded to this crisis and say what needs to be done so as to prepare for it. You can’t solve all the issues with the NEXT pandemic with a ten page paper, but you can point out ONE thing that can be done to make us better prepared. Like the above, I challenge you to pick a specific California State or local government (LAUSD, city, county, police, Fire, DWP, public health, etc…) policy that needs to be updated, improved etc. Your Course Project is all about you finding and arguing for a specific and real government POLICY CHANGE. For BOTH topics – ALL TOPICS - Focus on one (1) small policy – not the whole big deal – not “we have to do several things…” PICK ONE (and only 1) area to discuss, the more focused the better. The more specific and detailed the better! YOU need to focus on one policy, area, or issue, involved in the NEXT pandemic response and how to improve it in some REAL but small way. you need to clearly identify the level of government involved and state exactly what that level of government can do to make an improvement (change of policy – problem/solution). It is soooo easy now to see all the things this current president’s administration has NOT done – or done to make things worse - but that’s a little like “shooting fish in a barrel.” So try to look at this issue through the lens of local or state government – and maybe we can actually change things for the better. Remember – this is not about anything except a SOLUTION. Your research and paper must be about some small change that will make things better – even a very small solution to a very small aspect of the problem (actually – those are the easiest and most meaningful to write about. There is already plenty written by scholars on any subject you could come up with under these two large umbrella topics. You do not – should not – create your own problem/solution… go do some research and THINK about the details… What exactly should be done? Who verifies (enforces0 it? Who judges it as cost effective. Etc…??? Be specific. Be Bold, But Be Realistic. The more specific (focused), the better!. The Body of Your Paper should be MORE THAN ten (10) pages AT LEAST! With more than 15 sources, properly used and cited. (Of course the title page and etc. does NOT count in the page count)
