Using the supplied Understanding by Design Template you will Backwards Design a Unit by completing the UbD Unit template provided - designing several lessons using California Common Core Standards Assignment Requirements Your chosen unit of study May be on any subject Should last anywhere from a week to two months. Please note that the template is not designed for a single lesson, but for a series of connected lessons. Must use the principles of UbD and Designing an Understanding-based Curriculum around Common Core/California Content Standards. Needs to be built using the UbD template while confirming to all elements of the backwards design philosophy. All elements of the unit must be age-appropriate, rich and varied, personally meaningful, and provide opportunities for each student to grow in understanding and demonstrate mastery of the stated learning goals. Stage 1 - Desired Results Address the transferability of your unit’s skills, knowledge, and understandings by stating clear “Big Ideas” as well as long-term, independent accomplishments by the students. Two specific “Enduring Understandings” are provided that address UbD principles are included. Two to three “Essential Questions” are provided that address factual knowledge and specific skills/proficiencies. Established goals are provided that contain appropriate and relevant content standards AND a rationale for their selection is provided. Stage 2 - Evidence The 6 Facets of Understanding are clearly connected to an assessment/performance task. The GRASPS elements are used to frame authentic contexts for the tasks. Real-world/authentic tasks are used to determine students’ understanding. Assessment evidence is provided that validates the goals of achievement/attainment from Stage 1. Stage 3 - the Learning Plan Contains 4-5 clear statements that identify and explain: The choice of the 3 types of goals (acquisition, meaning, and transfer) and reflect principles of active learning and best practices for the diverse needs of learners. Details about how progress monitoring will clearly uncover potential misunderstandings and explain how students will receive needed feedback. The A, B, C elements are clearly and appropriately embedded and identified in the unit. The W.H.E.R.E.T.O. elements are clearly and appropriately embedded and identified in the unit. **Your template must be free of spelling/grammar errors, written clearly and professionally, and must contain enough detail that another teacher who is familiar with the content could use it. I ahve supplied the instructions, rubric, and several examples Grade level of the lessons are up to the person completing this assignment, I would believe early elementary would be easiest
