This essay requires that you view the 1964 Cold War satirical film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Presently, this film is streaming (for rent or purchase) on Amazon and YouTube, among other such services. After viewing Dr. Strangelove you may begin writing Essay 2. Essay 2 asks you to analyze the film in light of the course material from the week of 8 March about the start of the Cold War and the sense of “nuclear anxiety” that gripped Europe and North America in this time period. You may formulate any research question that you wish; here are some potential examples. Remember: only pick ONE question to discuss, to keep your essay focused. What perspective does Dr. Strangelove have about the nuclear arms race? What motivates the characters in the film and why are they motivated by those particular things? How does the film portray people from different countries—US-Americans, British, Russian/Soviet—and why? What role does comedy play in the film and why? This essay is 3-4 pages in length, in 12-point, double-spaced Times New Roman font with one-inch page margins. Notes from me: You can watch the video rent free on alot of online websites, or just look at a summary that is very intense so you understand the movie well for the essay. As long as you have a good thesis on the last sentence of your introduction paragraph and it connects throughout the whole essay, it will be very good!
