Set up the Information Technology Problem Analysis document. Use Word Title Page Course number and name Project name Student name Date Table of Contents (TOC) Autogenerated TOC Be sure to update the fields of the TOC so it us up-to-date before you submit your project. Placed on separate page Maximum of 3 levels deep Section Headings: Create each heading on a new page with "TBD" as content, except for sections listed under New Content below. Project Outline (Week 1) Problem Identification (Week 1) Project Plan (Week 2) Project Execution (Week 3) Proposed Solution (Week 4) Current and Future Technology Trends (Week 5) Section 1 Project Outline Give a brief description of the organization (can be hypothetical) that the problem relates to. Include company size, location(s), and other pertinent information. Formulate a problem statement for the project. The problem statement should describe the problem in a paragraph of 2–3 sentences. Problem Identification Provide an overview of the problem that is suitable for a nontechnical audience. The overview must identify the key points of the problem and the potential impact on the company or organization. Provide functional and nonfunctional requirements for the proposed system update/build, etc. Discuss how you plan to use research as part of the project. Final Topic Identify the primary areas of subject matter from previous courses that will be utilized in this project, including a description of how the material will contribute to the project. Section 2 Research Methodology Prepare at least one hypothesis for your project. The hypothesis should be well-formed for technical research purposes. For each hypothesis, provide details describing how research will be used to identify causal factors for the problem that you identified in the Week 1 assignment. Discuss how data will be collected, measured, and analyzed to prove or disprove the hypothesis. Provide a testing plan. Provide a SWOT analysis. Section 3 Project Research Execution Research Execution Conduct the research identified in the research plan, and document the process as it is performed. Gather the research results in an organized format that clearly identifies how the results relate to the identified problem(s) and the benefits that can be expected from solutions that have been found. Research Results Summary Summarize the results of the research. ? Include a discussion of specific project objectives that can now be stated based upon the research. Each objective should be unique and not overlap with other objectives and each objective should be supported by information and measures identified via the research. For example, a potential problem could be a trend of reduced customer satisfaction that is correlated with reduced sales. Research concerning what causes this type of problem and research about solutions, may reveal many issues and solutions. For example, customer service could be slow due to an IT system that has a slow response time when customer service representatives access information. The online sales portal that the customers utilize (if there is one) could be too slow – it could also be confusing. It could be that it is needed to consider using Social Media as part of a new customer relations campaign that will place our company more in touch with each specific customer and allow the identification of trends in what customers want and what they think about our company. ? Discuss how tangible and intangible measures are related to each objective and solution. For example, reductions in labor cost due to a proposed change accomplished via a specific IT project, is a tangible measure. An increase in customer satisfaction is less tangible. It can be measured by a validated survey. But what is the monetary value of an increase in customer satisfaction? Company data and other research can show there is a direct correlation between sales and satisfaction and that increases in customer satisfaction are associated with a predictable (within a range) increase in sales. ? Provide a discussion of the relative effectiveness of the research and how it might be improved to gain better results. Was there further information that would be helpful that was not found? Section 4 Project Execution Proposed Solution Using the results obtained from your research (along with other relevant information), prepare a proposed solution for the problem that you identified in Week 1. It will be appropriate to restate the original problem and provide a point-by-point justification as to why the proposed solution will address the problem. Project Plan Prepare a project plan for the proposed solution that includes the specific objectives, support for those objects, and measures for the objectives. Include a time line, tasks, required resources, and estimated costs. Present research support for the cost estimates. Final Topic Provide a three to five year cost–benefit analysis of the proposed solution and compare it to a cost-benefit analysis of the bottom line if no project is executed (if nothing is done). . Typically, a project should show a stronger cumulative positive total of the revenues – expenses figures compared to the do-nothing alternative. The cost benefit analysis should be accomplished using Excel. Section 5 The final step in the work for the course is to analyze how current and future technology trends might influence your project or research and discuss how to apply good ethical decision making practices to strategic solutions in the IT industry. Technology tends to change rapidly and, in some cases, might alter an IT project before it is even completed. Research results can be outdated in a short period of time and must include an analysis of current and future trends as part of the overall analysis. For the first part of this assignment, add a 2-3 page detailed analysis of current and future trends in areas of Information Technology that could affect your project research results. Produce a financial impact analysis scenario for the company based on the potential impact of the trends. Ethical practices such as how employees are treated, the use of information, the management of resources, or approaches to sustainability all have strong impacts on an organization. For example, consider 1) misuse of personal information, 2) misinformation and deep fakes, 3) lack of oversight and acceptance of responsibility, or 4) the use of artificial intelligence in a business. As managers, we have a responsibility to always be mindful to observe responsible ethical practices. For the second part of this assignment, add a 1-2 page analysis of how you, as the IT manager, would address 2-3 of these areas of best ethical practices that could apply to your project research results. Prepare a 2 slide .ppt presentation that addresses the technical audience of your project, i.e., the technical team and a 2-slide .ppt presentation that addresses the nontechnical members of the project, i.e., stakeholders, customers, business team members. Final Deliverables Current and Future Trends Analysis Provide a list of at least 3 current or future technology trends that might affect your project or research results. Discuss how each trend would influence your project or research. Your discussion should provide details about the impact that the technology trend would have on your project or research. Justify your analysis with appropriate research. Produce a financial impact analysis scenario for the company based on the potential effect of trends that were identified in the previous steps. Application of Ethical Decision Making to Strategic Solutions in Industry Provide a 1-2 page analysis of how you, as the IT manager, would address 2-3 areas of best ethical practices that could apply to your project research results. Provide two 2-slide PowerPoint Presentations for 1) technical and 2) nontechnical audience.
